The Hobbit!

Tuesday 5 Feb, 2013

The Hobbit is the prequel to the Lord of the Rings series where we get to see the origins of the characters. The story is centered around Bilbo and Gandalf. Bilbo is living a quite life in the Shire before he gets taken on a special journey with a group of very funny characters to reclaim the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.

Overall this is a very enjoyable, albeit long movie. I saw it at Imax in 3D and the visuals were just brilliant with beautiful scenes and wonderful fantasy landscapes and imagery.

Martin Freeman (of the UK version of the Office series) is absolutely brillant as Bilbo and Gandalf is wonderfully played by Ian McKellan.

A definate go see, if you can in 3d, this movie has got many great reviews and they are very much worth it!!

overall a 4 out of 5!

Great movie to see with your mates, mum (if she is into that sort of thing) excellent first date movie, great by yourself!

American Pie - American Reunion

Monday 27 Aug, 2012

Having seen all of the American Pie spin offs my expectations were extremely low with this movie, however I was plesantly surprised! This one follows on from the original series (up to American Pie the Wedding). Set 13 years after the boys left school they come together again for their high school reunion. The jokes pay homage to the original American Pie (the first one) with surprising cleverness. The movie tells of what has been happening in their individual stories over the years.

There were all of the elements we have come to expect from these types of shows, stupid jokes, nudity and Jim's dad.

If you can hold out until it is on DVD (or you get it for free) I would recommend a look or if you are looking for something that you don't have to think too much..this is the show for you!

A good one for the mate (if they saw the first few ones) ok for a date (see the last brackets) but pick your partner wisely! Not great for Mum...overall a 2.5 out of 5!

The Hunger Games

Monday 27 Aug, 2012

The Hunger Games is set in the future where an uprising of the people took place some years ago. As a result the Capitol each year requests that a boy and a girl from each of 12 districts be sent to compete in a fight to the death.

I found this to be a great story and great movie, there was a little bit lost on the small screen, however,  it is quite a long movie so the ability to stop and start it on the DVD made up for not seeing it on the big screen!

The story line, excellent acting and wonderfully imaginitive sets made this a highly enjoyable movie to watch.  Jennifer Lawrence is excellent as the lead, as is Woddy Harelson as the Mentor.  Overall a great Science Fiction film!

Great to watch with anyone I am pleased to say..great date movie, great with Mum or the mates! 4 out of 5!
